Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the results and complications.

Subjects and methods: Prospective study on 33 patients, from August 2017 to january 2019, Fractures of distal tibia without intra- articular extension were operated with locking plate with open and small invasive surgery. On follow-up regularly, distal results were assessed after 1 year with 33 patients.

Results: The result of bone healing after 1 year reached 97%. functional results assessed on American Orthopaedic Food and Ankle Score with good and very good scores reached 88%, average 6%, bad 6%. Complications include superficial skin infections in 2 cases (6%), osteomyelitis in 1 case (3%), implant failure in 1 case (3%).

Conclusion: Treatment by locking plate for distal tibia fractures is associated with good funtional outcomes and is an effective. Open surgery encountered more complications than less invasive surgery.
