Abstract

Objectives: Evaluate the results of distal femur close fractures treatment in adults by locking plate fixation. Assess the indication and treatment technique.

Subjects: 24 patients: 17 males, 7 females, from 16 to 87 ages, with diagnosis distal femur fracture, were treated by locking plate fixation in orthopaedic department, 175 military hospital from December 2016 to October 2019.

Methods: Prospective, clinical description without control group, sectional description and follow-up.

Results: Short-term results: 100% primary wound healing. Long-term results: 33.3% excellent, 57.1% good, 4.8% average, 4.8% poor. Complications: limitation of knee flexion (<90o): 2 patients (9.5%), malalignment:01 patient (4.8%), non-union 1 patient (4.8%).

Conclusion: Locking plate fixation has many advantages, achieve positive results, high efficiency, early rehabilitation as well as avoid muscular atrophy, knee stiffness.
