Abstract

Facial defects (under 3 cm in size) are common. Local flaps and regional flaps have some advantages to reconstruct these defects. Objectives: To comment on the clinical features of maxillofacial defects and evaluate the results of defect reconstruction by using local flaps and regional flaps at 175 Military Hospital. Subject and method: 32 patients suffered from facial soft tissue defect were reconstructed by using local flaps and regional flaps at 175 Military Hospital from October 2017 to October 2019. Results: The proportion of patients aged from 20 to 40 was 53.1%, while males accounted for 62.5% and females, 37.5%. The size of the flaps between 2 and 3 cm was the most common. Advancement flaps were most common, at 43.9%, and the regional flap is used for large defects in cancer. Good immediate results were seen in 93.8% of the patients. Long-term results after the re-examination of 17 patients were that 76.5% of them were good in terms of function and 58.8% were good in term of aesthetics. Conclusion: With small defects, the use of local flaps and regions flaps still lead to good results in respect of function and aesthetics.
