Abstract

Objective: determine the health care needs of the elderly in Tan Binh district and related factors.

Subjects and methods: cross-sectional study of 781 elderly people living in Tan Binh district at the time of the study.

Results: the elderly have the highest need for periodic health checks with 83.87%, home health care with 72.60% and the lowest need for rehabilitation with 55.44%. Factors: gender, occupation, number of chronic diseases being treated, autonomy in daily activities related to home health care needs. Factors: occupation, average monthly income, and medical facility using the service are related to the health consultation needs of the elderly.

Conclusion: Develop home health care packages specifically for the elderly. Having appropriate communication and service promotion strategies contributes to improving the quality of life of the elderly in the area.
