Abstract

Objective: Evaluating the role of chest computed tomography in staging of non-small cell lung cancer according to AJCC classification version 8

Subjects anh methods: Retrospective, cross-sectional study on 272 patients treated for non-small cell lung cancer at Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital.

Results: The most of patients were detected late in stage T4 (54.8%), T3 (23.9%). The most common metastatic lymph nodes were grade N2 (30.1%). Nearly half of patients had metastases on CT scan, of which grade M1a accounting for the highest 37.9%, grade M1c 4.8%, and grade M1b 1.5%. Stage IV (IVA and IVB) accounted for the highest rate at 44.1%. The diagnostic conformity of T grade, disease stage and N grade between CT scan and post-surgery levels is very good, good and average, respectively, with the corresponding kappa coefficient of 0.955; 0.740 and 0.581; p < 0.001.

Conclusion: Computed tomography has a large role and high value in evaluating and staging of non-small cell lung cancer
