Abstract

Objective: Describe the knowledge and attitude of trainees and students in preventing and handling injuries caused by sharp objects in infusion, blood collection for testing.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out on 200 subjects from College of Logistics 1 who have been practicing clinically, including medical students and nursing students from January to August 2021.

Results: In terms of knowledge: The percentage of students with correct knowledge in preventing and handling injuries caused by sharp objects is 62.5%. The percentage of students who answered correctly all 3 blood-borne viruses was 53.5%. 20.5% answered correctly about the times when sharp objects can hurt. 48.5% answered correctly about using a safe box. There are 73% of students with correct knowledge of
wound management and 86.5% understand that reports are necessary.

About attitude: The percentage of students with a positive attitude is 76.5%.

Conclusion: The percentage of students with knowledge reached 62.5%, with a positive attitude was 76.5%.
