Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes of facial skin cancer patients treated at Military Hospital 175.

Patients and Methods: A total of 47 patients diagnosed with facial skin cancer underwent surgical treatment in the Maxillofacial Department at Military Hospital 175 from September 2020 to November 2024. Results: The male-to-female ratio was 1:1.04, with a mean age of 66.4 ± 14.2 years. The average duration from tumor onset to hospitalization was 3.5 ± 4.0 years. The cheek was the most commonly affected area, representing 29.8% of cases. Notable tumor characteristics included polycystic structure, black pigmentation, and spot-like appearance. Basal cell carcinoma was the most common type, accounting for 87.2% of cases. Mohs surgery was performed in 93.6% of patients, and local flaps were used for reconstruction in 85.1% of cases. Immediate outcomes (7 days post-surgery) showed 95.7% of flaps were intact, with 6.3% of patients experiencing bleeding and 2.1% showing signs of mild infection. Wound healing was satisfactory in 89.4% of patients. At the 6-month follow-up, 80.9% of patients showed well-defined contours, 91.6% had barely visible scars, and only 2 patients experienced recurrence.

Conclusion: Surgery, particularly Mohs surgery, yields favorable outcomes for facial skin cancer patients, with low recurrence rates and satisfactory aesthetic results.
