Abstract

Objectives: Research characteristics of sleeping disorder in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Subjects and methods: A cross retrospective describing study on 71 patients and an longitudinal observational prospective study on 33 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome with sleep disturbance underwent transverse ligamentectomy to release compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel in the Military Medical Hospital 175 from January 2019 to May 2022. Evaluation of PSQI and ISI index before surgery.

Results and Conclusion: Before surgery, mean PSQI score was 12.78 ± 2.47 points, mean ISI score was 18.74 ± 2.05 points, all patients had sleep efficiency less than 85%. On average, the time to sleep per night in the age group older than 65 years was longer than in the age group 26 to 64 years. Before surgery, 100% of patients self-assessed their sleep quality in the past one month as relatively poor and very poor. All patients showed moderate to severe effects on day-to-day life
