Abstract

Objective: Evaluating the outcome of nasal septum and obstruction symptom after septoplasty by modified septum trans-suture fixation technique.

Methods: Case series.

Results: Surveying 56 cases septoplasty by modified septum trans-stitch technique: the average age is 42.5±11.2 (from 22 to 64 years old); males are 35 cases (62.5%), females are 21 cases (37.5%). All cases have nasal obstruction; one-side obstruction are 19 cases (33.9%), both-side obstruction are 20 cases (35.7%) and obstruction accompanying chronic rhinosinusitis without surgical intervention are 17 cases (30.4%). The average illness-time is 2.8±1.2 year (from 1 to 5 years). The average screening-time is 14±5 month (from 9 to 22 months). Straight septum are 38/56 cases (67.8%), mild-deviation are 18/56 cases (32.2%); nasal obstruction symptom is significantly reduced; statistically significant better change in each group. The result shows: good-group are 44 cases (78.6%), moderate-group are 11 cases (19.6%), average-group is 1 case (1.8%), not recording complication in and after surgery.

Conclusions: Septal trans-suture fixation technique shows good result in simple septum deviation group, moderate result in septum deviation with enlarge inferior turbinate group, average result in septum deviation with CRS symptom.
