Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the results of surgery for intertrochanteric fracture by gamma nail at 175 Military Hospital and comment on indications, techniques and advantages and disadvantages of the method.

Subjects and research methods: 66 patients with intertrochanteric fracture with Gamma nail from September 2020 to December 2021 at 175 Military Hospital. Prospective, interventional, longitudinal follow-up study, no control group.

Results: mean age 74.9 ± 15. Early postoperative outcome results: 100% incision healing, the recovery of the femoral neck angle from 1250 to 1300 reached 100%. The results with mean follow-up 12 ± 6 months were evaluated on 54 patients: 42 patients (77.8%) excellent; 10 patients (18.5%) good; 02 patients (3.7 %) poor. None of the patients had limited range of motion of the knee joint.

Conclusion: The gamma nail can be used for all fractures of the proximal femoral fractures. The method is highly effective in A2, A3 unstable fractures. Indicated for both elderly, poor health, and chronic comorbidities, which is convenient for post-operative care and is stable to allow early exercise and avoid complications from prolonged lying down.
