Abstract

Objective: To survey some clinical, para-clinical, and coronary artery lesion characteristics of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). To evaluate the relationship between coronary artery lesion characteristics and some atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk factors. Subjects and methods: The study design is retrospective, cross-sectional on 100 patients undergoing PCI at the Department of Cardiovascular Intervention, Military Hospital 175 from January 2022 to June 2022. Results: PCI patients had an average age of 64.3±10.6 years, and the proportion of male was 76%. Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) accounted for 60%. Nearly 90% of patients had typical angina, and breathlessness with NYHA I and II classification. The most common cardiovascular risk factors were hypertension (HTN), male sex, age at risk, dyslipidemia, and overweight. BMI was significantly different between the ACS group and chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) (p=0.0044). There was a significant association between overweight and the likelihood of having acute or chronic coronary syndrome (p=0.001). The median NT-proBNP and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of patients were 731.4 (interquartile range, IQR: 220.8-1655.8) pg/ml, and 60.6 (IQR: 53.4-67.0) %. Lesions in the left main trunk (LM) had the lowest rate (3%). Left anterior descending artery (LAD) was the most common site.

The mean Gensini score was 31.6 ± 24.87. 88% of the coronary lesions were significant. The rate of multivessel disease (MVD) was 54%. There is a relationship between gender and the rate of MVD (p=0.014). Conclusion: Most patients were middle-aged or older, male, and had ACS. The main symptoms were typical angina and dyspnea with NYHA I-II. Common cardiovascular risk factors included hypertension, male sex, age at risk, dyslipidemia, and overweight. There was almost no statistically significant difference between the ACS and CCS groups in the rate of risk factors, except for overweight. The median NT-proBNP and LVEF of PCI patients were 731.4 (IQR: 220.8-1655.8) pg/ml, and 60.6 (IQR: 53.4-67.0) %. LM lesions had the lowest incidence while LAD lesions had the highest incidence. The mean Gensini score was 31.6 ± 24.87. Most lesions were significant. More than half of the patients had MVD. The rate of MVD in the male group was statistically higher than that in the female group.
