Abstract

Objectives: Clinical characteristics, magnified endoscopic images, and histopathology of patients with large colorectal polyps.

Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 73 patients with large colorectal polyps (≥ 10 mm) at 175 Military Hospital from October 2023 to May 2024. Patients underwent endoscopic colorectal polyp detection, polyp morphological description according to the Paris and JNET Classification.

Results: The average age of the patients were 62.27 ± 9.96 years old, mainly in the age group of 60 years and older (65.8%), with a male/female ratio of 4.21/1. 50.7% of patients with symptoms went to exam, with abdominal pain being a common symptom, accounting for 42.5%. The majority of polyps were in the sigmoid colon (44.7%) and rectum (19.1%). According to the Paris classification, type 0-I polyps account for 88.4%, while type 0-II accounts for 11.6%. There are no polyps of type IIb, IIc, and type III. The JNET classification of polyps types 1, 2A, 2B, 3 are 24.5%, 63.8%, 9.6%, and 2.1%, respectively.

Conclusion: Patients with colorectal polyps are common in males and elderly patients. The main reason for  examination was abdominal pain. Polyps are common in the sigmoid colon and rectum, with Paris type 0-I and JNET type 2A being the most prevalent.
