Abstract

Introduction: Pain control is one of the essential components that create early recovery after surgery for patients with the motto of multimodal pain relief combined with regional anesthesia. Epidural anesthesia and paravertebral anesthesia have high failure rates, and at the same time have many dangerous complications such as spinal hematoma, nerve damage... so today the indication for postoperative pain relief needs to be considered. Erector spinae plane block is a new technique, easy to perform, safe and has been proven to bring effective postoperative pain relief in many types of surgery.

Materials and methods: Patients undergoing planned video-assisted lobectomy. This study design was a controlled cross-sectional prospective study.

Results: 59 patients were analyzed and recorded the results of postoperative morphine use in the erector spinae plane anesthesia group 20% was lower than in the incisional anesthesia group 44,8%(p = 0.04), the cumulative amount of morphine 24 hours after surgery in the erector spinae plane anesthesia group was lower and statistically significant with p = 0.04. At the same time, VAS pain scores at rest in the erector spinae plane anesthesia group at 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours after surgery had a statistically significant difference with p < 0.05.

Conclusions: Erector spinae plane block provides more effective postoperative pain relief than incisional anesthesia.
